03 Feb 05 NOT IF - WHEN
When was the last time you looked at the Civil Defence information in the back of your phone book? We would suggest that you do look at this information, and have a plan "B" in place in the event of a major disaster. It could be a sudden, major fire in your home or perhaps a mini tornado sweeping through your neighbourhood - it can and does happen.
It's too late to put a plan in place after the event, so do it NOW. It makes sense to know exactly what you would do, where you would go, what you would need to take, etc.
For example, all important documents (such as passports, wills, insurance policies, birth certificates) and valuable items should be kept in one place, so they could easily be taken with you, without having to fossic around in several cupboards trying to find them! You should also have an up to date list of personal contacts, phone numbers and addresses which you can easily take with you. What about your pets - what would you do to ensure they are safe too?
It DOES make sense, yet few do this until a disaster strikes and they see the consequences. Then it's too late.
