Yes, here we go again in to another year, and it's taking a while getting used to using "2005".
What a tragic end to 2004 with the terrible Tsunamis affecting South East Asia. Our hearts go out to all those affected and one can only imagine the devastation and ongoing effects in that region.
Although earthquakes causing such massive waves are unlikely to be more prevalent as a result of environmental issues, the development on these islands and lack of natural barriers obviously did play a part. We are seeing this all around the world with stripping of land and forests, replaced with man made buildings, roads and the like. This MUST have an affect on our environment, and we will definitely see more extreme weather situations in the future. In fact, we've already seen this in California, Europe and the South Island this month! Our advice? Plant more trees!!
