The recent devastating floods in the lower north island are, we believe, a sign of things to come. With changing weather patterns due to global warming and de-forestation around the globe, such floods will regrettably be more common.
Elsewhere in the world, insurance cover for flood related damage can be more difficult to obtain in certain areas (eg homes located near a flood plain or below a dam) and this is likely to occur in certain parts of New Zealand in the future.
