The Baileys Insurance Team

Neil was the founder of Baileys, formerly known as Bailey & Associates, established in April 1986. He sold his interest in the company and retired in October 2021, after 40 years in the insurance industry.

I’m very proud of the team running Baileys today. The management team are all long standing shareholders who “liked it so much they bought more of the company.” The whole team is continuing with my ideas and ideals of what insurance is all about: Trust, integrity, reliability and stability.
 – Neil B

peter@baileysinsurance.co.nz

Pete is our managing director and a partner.  He is responsible for our day to day operations and specialises in commercial insurance, with extensive knowledge and expertise in this area. Prior to joining Baileys in the year 2000, Pete had seventeen valuable years experience with major NZ Insurance companies, dealing with both brokers and direct clients. Originally from Christchurch and still a Cantabrian at heart (we’re working on it!) Pete moved to Auckland with a job transfer in 1993. His insurance experience now totals more than 30 years and he has been an integral part of Baileys’ success through his total dedication and professional approach.  After hours, Pete puts a lot of time into his family and has a keen interest in all sports, but especially rugby- being a big Crusaders fan!

simon@baileysinsurance.co.nz

Simon is a partner in the company, and a senior risk adviser.   He has been involved in insurance for more than twenty five years and ran his own brokerage for fifteen years before joining Baileys in 2010. He has a broad range of experience in all types of insurance and brings valuable expertise to the Baileys team, where he specialises in commercial, construction and liability risks.

In his life outside work Simon is a dedicated family man, and most weekends are spent at the family caravan in Muriwai.  He enjoys swimming and water sports, and is a keen rugby follower.

rowan@baileysinsurance.co.nz

Rowan joined Baileys in 2012, and quickly became a partner in the company.  With insurance experience acquired in both underwriting and broking since 1995, Rowan brings a wealth of knowledge to the Baileys team and is a senior risk adviser.

Having been raised in a boat building family and with yachting being in his blood, it was natural to be involved in the marine industry in some way. Having been a marine underwriter for many years, Rowan moved into a broking role in 2005 and has found his niche. From an insurance perspective, Rowan specialises in broking all commercial insurance lines and is dedicated to ensuring his clients are his number one priority. Rowan’s passion for marine based risks remains strong and he has built up a very loyal client base in this area due to his knowledge and expertise.  His spare time is shared between family, sailing, camping and all things outdoors.

barbs@baileysinsurance.co.nz

Barb joined Baileys in 2001 after time away from the work force with her family. She has vast experience in insurance and a keen attention to detail, which makes her perfectly suited to her role of accounts administrator and handling our premium funding activities.  She has been a dedicated and reliable member of the Baileys team with honesty beyond reproach.

Outside of insurance, Barb enjoys being with her family, including 2 grandchildren, running, aerobics, and walking her dog, Charlie.  Barb lives in Orewa and very much enjoys the beachside lifestyle.

susan@baileysinsurance.co.nz

Susan has over ten years of experience in Insurance and has been with Baileys since 2002. Her knowledge of our systems, clients and policies makes her a centre point of the Baileys team and keeps us all in line – well, tries to! She’s involved in many day to day activities, including processing and domestic insurance enquiries. Susan is also married and has a wonderful baby girl who takes up a lot of her time outside of the office.

sandy@baileysinsurance.co.nz

Sandy began working at Baileys in 2008. She worked in the South African insurance industry for over twenty years and has worked with a variety of broking companies in that time. She completed her Intermediate Business Studies qualification in South Africa, and immigrated to New Zealand in 2007. Sandy is our domestic underwriting specialist and also helps with claims when demand is high. Her free time revolves around her family, and she is an enthusiastic supporter of her two boy’s cricket and hockey teams.

rensia@baileysinsurance.co.nz

Rensia came to Baileys in 2007 and has fifteen years of insurance behind her. Rensia completed her Intermediate Business Studies Qualification in South Africa and moved to New Zealand in 2006. She worked with Lumley Insurance before making the move to broking and now she works with new and existing commercial clients. Rensia spends most of her time outside of work with her husband and sons. She enjoys sport and travelling around the New Zealand countryside whenever the opportunity arises.

racheal@baileysinsurance.co.nz

Racheal started working for Baileys in 2009 after leaving a well established position at Orix New Zealand to start a family. She has a great deal of experience in administration, sales and customer services, and is a valuable member to the Baileys team. Her customer focus and dedication to getting the job done are invaluable in the roles she has with the Life and Health team, supporting the Brokers and the Domestic team. Outside of insurance she enjoys netball, but gets plenty of exercise looking after her husband and three children as well!

pam@baileysinsurance.co.nz

Pam joined Baileys in 2008. She has a varied background and has experience in many different fields, from Real Estate to a Scientific Technician. Pam is responsible for many administrative duties in the office, including the processing of much of our marine business. Away from the office she has two Burman cats which she adores – plus her husband of course!, and also loves spending time out on the water, or baking in the kitchen.

wendy@baileysinsurance.co.nz

Wendy has over twenty five years of industry experience and joined Baileys in 2005. She has worked in a number of roles, and with a variety of insurance companies, which has given her a strong background of how the industry works. At Baileys she works as our full time claims specialist and this keeps her extremely busy, ensuring we deliver on our Platinum Claims Guarantee. In her life away from work, Wendy is married with twin girls and her family love music, motorcycling and travel, especially overseas.

sue@baileysinsurance.co.nz

Sue joined Baileys in January 2012, having moved to New Zealand from Wales in the year 2000. She has been involved with the insurance industry for 14 years, and is enjoying the insurance broking environment, providing backup and support. Sue enjoys variety, and certainly gets that at Baileys! Married with 1 daughter and 2 sons, Sue spends lots of time taxiing them around to various sporting venues, with one son at the top of his game in both tennis and squash. Her other spare time is spent going to the gym and following the English Premier League.

tom@baileysinsurance.co.nz

Tom Hutton recently joined Baileys at the start of 2017. With both his Grandmother and Mother having long and successful careers in insurance, it was only a matter of time before he made the jump across himself.

Tom previously gained experience in both the Construction Industry and Hospitality Sales before starting out his insurance career at Vero Insurance, where he quickly made his way into the commercial team before making the jump to Insurance broking (basically we “head hunted” him).

Tom is the youngest member of our team with a bright future as one of our Advisers, and in his spare time likes to Travel, play Guitar, Mountain Bike and Snowboard – but not all at the same time!

shane@baileysinsurance.co.nz

Shane joined Baileys in April 2018 after working for 2½ years at Vero Insurance gaining valuable experience as an insurance underwriter before coming to Baileys to further his insurance career on the broking side of things. Shane’s another one that we “head hunted” as we believe that good experience and excellent customer service is hard to find and, after dealing with Shane ourselves, we knew he’d fit into the broking side of things easily. Shane has also worked in the wider insurance industry for over 11 years with the majority of that time with direct insurers in a variety of roles including customer service, sales support and claims. Outside of work, Shane enjoys travelling and exploring the great outdoors.

donna@baileysinsurance.co.nz

Donna joined Baileys in February 2018 after taking time off from working to raise her family and help with the family business. Prior to that Donna gained valuable experience working with various insurers looking after a variety of claims from Fire and General with State Insurance to Travel claims with Comprehensive Travel Insurance. Donna has brought this valuable experience to Baileys to help bolster our claims team which now has two full time people working in it. In her spare time, she loves spending time with her family, being out and about exploring new areas or walking her border collie along the local beaches. She is most happy with a camera in her hands.

carolyn@baileysinsurance.co.nz

Carolyn joined Baileys in November 2018 after working as a domestic broker with a number of insurance brokers in Auckland. She really liked the “vibe” here compared to other larger and more impersonal companies she’d worked for and that made the decision to join us that much easier. She’s been working in the insurance industry for 29 years and Carolyn has also worked for a number of insurance companies which has proven to be a real advantage giving her a great insight on how both sides work in our industry. Carolyn looks after all of our new domestic business (houses, contents, cars and motorcycles) and, in her spare time she enjoys Art, Movies and Music.

Licence status and conditions

Baileys Insurance Ltd holds a financial advice provider licence, issued by the Financial Markets Authority (FMA) to provide financial advice.
Our Financial Markets Authority Reference Number is: CAS-75396-Y7R8M1 / NTF220538567.

Nature and scope of financial advice service

This website is an on line facility to purchase pleasure craft insurance for your recreational vessel. This does not provide quotations or advice on any other insurance product. The insurance policy here is underwritten by the marine division of Vero Insurance NZ Ltd. This facility does not provide any comparisons or quotations on any pleasure craft policies from other Insurers. The policy available here has been arranged based on our extensive experience in the marine insurance market. Key features and benefits unique to Baileys Insurance are highlighted in the full quotation provided. Once the policy is purchased, we provide expert assistance with any claims you may need to make. This on line system is set up for boat owners to obtain boat insurance. All of the policy information is available before you make your decision to purchase. If you have any questions or would like to discuss any aspect of the policy or coverage please call us on 0800 89 85 85. The on line facility is only used for new business. Your policy will be reviewed each year and a renewal offer will be sent to you prior to the policy expiring. You are free to turn down this offer. The on line facility can be cancelled at any time without any notice being given.

Fees, expenses or other amounts payable

We charge a policy fee to help cover administration costs.  The fee for trailer craft is NIL.  The fee for moored vessels is:
Up to $100,000 sum insured: $50.
Over $100,000 sum insured:  $75.
Any fee charged will be clearly shown on your invoice and is part of the total amount due.

Premium funding

Premium funding products enable you to pay the insurance premium over the term of your policy by instalments rather than as one amount. Premium funders charge interest and they take a power of attorney over your insurance policy, which means they have the ability to cancel your insurance policy if you fail to pay an instalment.  We own Baileys Premium Funding Ltd, a premium funding company.  Under certain circumstances this company may allow you to fund your premium allowing you to spread the payments over the term of your policy.  Additional charges apply, which will be clearly advised to you if we agree to you using this facility.

Commissions and incentives

Our remuneration is paid by Vero Insurance Ltd, by way of commission. The commission rate is 20% of the Company Premium shown on your invoice. We are also a member of Steadfast NZ Limited (Steadfast). Steadfast supplies technology platforms, management, marketing, professional, technical, and buying benefits and services to support us in providing our financial advice. Steadfast has arrangements with insurance companies under which Steadfast receives a professional services fee of up to 1.5% of the premium paid for each policy arranged by us with those insurers. These payments are used to operate Steadfast. We will receive a proportion of the professional services fee paid to Steadfast, being 35% of that fee. This will be paid to us by Steadfast at the end of each financial year.

We receive no other incentives or inducements.
